I'm a Matrix Energetics practitioner and for me the core of the work is opening to new possibilities. The widening of one's experience in itself can produce amazing and miraculous changes but it also can make us more comfortable where we are because we don't feel so locked into our presently perceived problem sets.
Looking at current models of the brain's neurology, we can say that our perception is just an interpretation of signals in which our brain often makes guesses and assumptions based on what it expects to receive given past experiences, expectations, social conditioning, etc.
Our brain in its efficiency often fills in information where there is none and inteprets data very quickly to conform to what is the most expected response to the incoming information. Perception does happen in the brain. The sensory data must be interpreted and the brain draws on past experiences and other kinds of prompting to save energy. This is very helpful and allows us to function fairly well without being overwhelmed and exhausted through stimuli and data processing but I do like to play with the idea of encouraging myself to see what I'm not seeing or hear what I'm not hearing..... to break the spell a bit and open up to different experiences and possibilities.
This peaks my interest towards what I are not noticing, what I am noticing that isn't there while remaining aware that what I am perceiving is only one interpretation of many possibilties.
I would suggest..... Ask questions. Notice what's different. Go wider.
The asking of questions in itself is a release from having a model of how things are and having an investment in that model being true. When we don't know, we are more open to noticing what we haven't noticed or what we were noticing that isn't there.
Which in the end makes our experience wider.
These three suggestions don't have to follow any linear sequence. You could go wider and notice what's different. They're just playful tools to use throughout the day to open yourself to new possibilities.
Of course, the current neurological model is in itself one of many possibilities. I use it here as a jumping off place to greater freedom.
